Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is located at the north/eastern tip of Tanzania . For the adventurous, a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro is a must taking you through the mists of equatorial jungle to reach the snows and breath-taking views from the

The name kilimanjaro itself is a mystery wreathed in clouds. It might mean Mountain of Light , Mountain of Greatness or Mountain of Caravans . Or it might not. The local people, the Wachagga, don't even have a name for the whole massif, only Kipoo (now known as Kibo) for the familiar snowy peak that stands imperious, overseer of the continent, the summit of Africa .
By any name, is a metaphor for the compelling beauty of East Africa . When you see it, you understand why. Not only is this the highest peak on the African continent; it is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding coastal scrubland – elevation around 900 metres – to an imperious 5,895 metres (19,336 feet).

This is one of the world's most accessible high summits, a beacon for visitors from around the world. Most climbers reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. And those who reach Uhuru Point, the actual summit, or Gillman's Point on the lip of the crater, will have earned their climbing certificates. And their memories.

At the summit of, you will be welcomed by a sign posted by the Tanzanian government. The sign (printed in English only) reads "Congratulations! You are now at Uhuru Peak, Tanzania, 5,895 m.

The summit is covered by a GSM mobile phone network, provided by Vodacom, making it the highest point in Africa with mobile phone service. Mount Everest's summit is the highest point in the world.
AS described by Ernest Hemingway “as wide as all the world, great, high and unbelievably white in the sun, was the square top of Kilimanjaro ”. The Kilimanjaro is one of the most impressive sights in Africa, visible from as far away as Tsavo and Amboseli National parks in Kenya.

Rising over 16,000ft from the surrounding plains to a peak of 19,340ft, it is Africa's highest mountain.

But there is so much more than her summit. The ascent of the slopes is a virtual climatic world tour, from the tropics to the Arctic. So why not join one of our organized climbing tours. The mountain can be climbed by people of any age. The oldest of our clients was 78 and the youngest being 14 years. We cater for big and small groups. Kilimanjaro compared to Mt. Kenya , Africa's highest Mountain is a relatively easy climb and the main summit of Uhuru peak (5,895m) can be reached by most climbers. It is Africa 's highest free standing mountain at 5,895 meters or 19,340FT.It looms some 16,000 feet (4,900 meters) above the plains that spread out from its base, dominates its surroundings. This is an extinct volcano, with 3 peaks: Kibo peak, Shira peak & Mawenzi peak. Kibo is the highest one (5,895m) in the center, Mawenzi is lower (5,149m) and East of Kibo, but more technical. The (Kili - easily known) third peak is Shira which is less obvious, but it's also an extinct volcano (3,962m, west of Kibo).Hiking, Trekking, Walking, machame route,Umbwe route, Lemosho route, Rongai route.

The snows of Mount Kilimanjaro will be gone within two decades, according to scientists who say that the rapid melting of its glacier cap over the past century provides dramatic physical evidence of global climate change.

If the forecast — based on 95 years of data tracking the retreat of the Kilimanjaro ice — proves correct it will be the first time in about 12,000 years that the slopes of Africa 's highest mountain have been ice-free.

Since 1912, 85 per cent of the glacier has disappeared and the melting does not appear to be slowing down. Twenty-six per cent of the ice has disappeared since 2000.

The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences , concludes that the primary cause of the ice loss is the increase in global temperatures. Although changes in cloudiness and snowfall may also play a role, these factors appear to be less important. Even intense droughts, including one lasting about 300 years, did not cause the present degree of melting.
